On December 2, 2000, Cindy (Foley) Reutter, lost her battle with breast cancer at the age of 35. Cindy did not leave this world peacefully; she fought to live until her last breath. But Cindy always believed there was hope. With her strength and tenacity, her beauty and wisdom, her faith and her HOPE, she always believed that breast cancer could be beat; that the war could be won. With Cindy’s death brought the birth of Team I Hope You Dance. And Team I Hope You Dance is all about HOPE.

Team I Hope You Dance was formed because of a promise. A promise made to a dying childhood friend; a dying sister; a dying daughter…… . A promise to always do whatever we could so that no family would have to watch their mother, their daughter, their sister, or friend die because of breast cancer. It is because of that promise that Cindy’s childhood friend signed up to walk in the 2001 Susan G. Komen 3-day by herself. Little did she know that she would never walk alone. Friends and family quickly joined her. We have formed friendships that will forever be tied together in pink ribbons. After our first 60 mile walk together we knew what our role in the fight against breast cancer was to be. Team I Hope You Dance was born. There was never a question as to what our team’s name would be. The song I Hope You Dance was one Cindy picked to have played at her funeral. She hoped people would listen to the words and apply them to their lives. She hoped they would see just how wonderful it was to be alive and how blessed they were that they could choose to dance.

Our Team walks and crews in loving memory of Cindy Reutter. But it goes much deeper than losing Cindy. Cindy left a wonderful legacy – her three beautiful children. We walk and crew for the next generation. It seems everyone is touched by knowing someone who has been affected by breast cancer. We walk and crew because you can’t and maybe next year you can. We are dedicated to raising breast cancer awareness; to raising money to fund the organizations like the Susan G. Komen Foundation so one day, hopefully, very soon, a cure will be found.

Cindy would have turned 40 in 2005, a milestone that many of us mark with big celebrations. Our commitment to the Susan G. Komen 3-Day is our way of celebrating a beautiful young woman’s life that ended way too soon. It is with that feeling of celebration that we share with you the pages of our website. Get to know Cindy, her family, and Team I Hope You Dance. Then come along and shop with us. Share in our celebration and commitment to finding a cure for breast cancer.

We encourage you to drop by our “shop” in the memory of Cindy, and for the thousands of women and men everywhere that still believe there is HOPE. When you shop, please know that 100% of all net proceeds from your donations go directly to benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation via our team of walkers, to fund breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment, as well as the National Philanthropic Trust Breast Cancer Fund, and to provide a special field of interest fund for breast cancer initiatives.

When you get the choice to sit it out
